Ft. Morgan, Alabama
Posted by Chuck on March 29th, 2007
I thought I’d do something a little different today and post a few pictures. A couple of weeks ago when Susan went with me on one of my business trips, we stopped off for a little historical tour. We went to Ft. Morgan, near Mobile, Alabama. Susan wasn’t crazy about the idea, but y’all know how much I love history, so I had to see it. Ft. Morgan was a Confederate installation guarding the entrance to Mobile Bay, and the city of Mobile. It fell to the damn Yankee’s on August 5th, 1864.
These are just a few of the pictures I took while we were there.

No, that’s not me and the wife in the picture above. We’re not that old….yet.

I especially like this one. I love the arches and how you can see into several rooms.

It was a nice little trip back in time. I’d like to go back sometime when I can spend more time looking around the place. If you like to read about the history of the fort click here. If you want to see more pictures taken by someone else click here.
Hope y’all have a great one!

For some reason, these pics look very familiar. Not sure why though.
Looks like a hella cool place. Shrek would love to go there, you & he share a love of history and all that crap. I would have gone shopping with Susan.

Nice to know there’s actually some honest to god history to visit when one goes to the redneck riviera…..

Those are some really nice pics. While Julie and I are usually very alike I’d have to not shop and check that out. History in this country can be hard to come by.
Looks cool.

that is so cool. I love visiting places like that. Thanks for sharing the pictures.
I’m hoping to visit Cowboy Colby out your way at the end of the summer. If so, we’ll have to hang out for a couple (read:10+) adult beverages.

Slick - Yeah, the stuff I usually photograph is more of the adult nature…
E - Spell much? LOL
Julie - Kind of weird reading where you wrote, “you and he share a love…” Kinda made me want to vomit, if you don’t read the rest…
Courtney - Yep, there’s a lot of history ’round Mobile.
Khaki - Thanks for the heads up. Can’t wait to rent it!
Snag - In April of 2010.
Laurie - Make a trip down south. I’ll show you a lot of cool history!
Shumpeh! - Colby lives near that place. I do hope you come out. We’ll definitely get together!

Cool. I’ll have to roll by there some time. Forts like that represent the peak of fortress development, built at about the last moment when people thought they could really defend themselves with this sort of static defense. Reminds me of the time, in the spring of 1990, when I floated into Charleston Harbor on a destroyer, past Ft. Sumter. Was coming back to the states after my first gig teaching on a navy ship. It was cool seeing it from that vantage point, able to see what the defenders saw as well as what the attackers saw. Yep, history rocks.
